Oracle processes and NT Performace Monitor

One of our NT Servers (4.0 SP5) has a serious problem. It randomly and automatically reboots now and then. I am working on this problem by means of analyzing the memory dump created by NT and the performance log. In this performance log I notice some Oracle processes (Oracle73) which seems unusually high to me. However I am not certain of this because I don't know exactly how to interpret the Oracle process values. Does anyone have guidelines for this?

This is probably unrelated, but I had a site
running Oracle 7.3 on Novell ... and whenever
anyone crashed out of Forms, it would cause
the server to abend. This was due to a
problem with the Oracle PMON attempting to
clear the orphan process.

Its a very long shot....

Which Oracle processes seem to have high values in the performance log?

I've had good results managing a variety of Oracle7 and Oracle8 databases on NT4.  In about four years with this combination on at least four different systems, I've only seen two unexpected NT reboots.

Oracle server kernel process version 7.3.n.n runs as oracle73 in the memory on windows system. If you allocate more memory for Oracle process than you have, it will start frequent paging and make the whole system slow even crash.

Go to control panel, services and stop the Oracle server process. Then check initSID.ora file in your ORCALE_HOME/database and re-evaluate memory related parameters.

Hope it will solve your problem.

although Oracle didn't appear to be the cause of the problem (it was a set of DVD players); I think that your answer was a good one and gave me some knowledge about Oracle's behaviour
