Question

SQL Loader Filler problem

Asked by: baskomurcu

Hi,
Got a pretty easy question. I got the following Control file:

LOAD DATA
INFILE 'test.dat'
APPEND
INTO TABLE CUST_PROS
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ';'
TRAILING NULLCOLS
(F1,
F2,
F3,
FILLER1 FILLER,
FILLER2 FILLER,
F4 "FILLER1 || FILLER2")

and receive the following error for the F4 field:
Record 1: Rejected - Error on table CUST_PROS, column AD.
ORA-00904: invalid column name

The fields FILLER1 and FILLER2 are fiels that I want to concatenate to construct the column F4 in my table. The Filler fields dont exist in my table.

Anyone got an answer for this??? Should be easy...

I don't know how to solve this directly, because i do ALWAYS use a staging table for loading that has the same structure than the file. After the load, i can easily do my checks, compare, filter and use the data as needed.
This is the best you can do, because you avoid to trouble data in the production tables, and have much more control over the process.

Cheers

suppose you have table xyz with columns x,y,z , then control file should be :

load data
infile *
append
into table xyz
fields terminated by ','
trailing nullcols
(x,y,z ":x||:y")
begindata
a,s

your table would have :

x y z
------
a s as

hope thats what  u have been looking for.....

In your answer the fields X and Y are columns in your target table. But in my example they are not. Sorry.

From Chapter 3 of the _Oracle 8i Utilities_ manual, section "Loading Objects, Collections, and LOBs", subsection "SQL*Loader DDL Behavior and Restriction":

Filler fields can be used in field condition specifications in NULLIF, DEFAULTIF, and WHEN clauses. However, they cannot be used in SQL strings.

If for some reason you absoluted cannot either use a staging table as suggested above or preprocess the file outside Oracle, I suppose you could create a view, say CUST_PROS_VIEW, and put an INSTEAD OF trigger on it, roughly as follows:

CREATE VIEW CUST_PROS_LOAD_VIEW AS SELECT F1, F2, F3, F4 as FILLER1, F4 AS FILLER2
FROM CUST_PROS;

CREATE TRIGGER CPLV$INSERT ON CUST_PROS_LOAD_VIEW
INSTEAD OF INSERT FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
      INSERT INTO CUST_PROS(F1, F2, F3, F4)
     VALUES(:NEW.F1, :NEW.F2, :NEW.F3, :NEW.FILLER1 || :NEW.FILLER2);
END;
/

You won't be able to run a direct load, but then you wouldn't be able to with the SQL string anyway.
