You have to populate that list first either with posible static values or with all the distinct values of that column by the select statement. And renuraj alreay defined you about the LOV.

I am trying to use list item to display one column from a table. But looks like it does not work. Please help.
If I can not do this. How can I select a value from the LOV and display this selected item to the display box?

Create a text item 'textitem1'.
Attatch LOV to that text item 'textitem1' by specifying LOV property of textitem to your LOV name.
In the LOV properties.
Specify the textitem1 in the 'return' section.
Now when u select a value from LOV, it will automatically display in textitem.
