clob to varchar2

In the 8i database, I have a table with one field as datatype "clob".
In my application pl/sql code, how can I query the database table
and display the content of the clob field in a "textarea".

Can I store the content of the clob field in a varchar2 variable in the
application code?

Thanks!That select works..but I still have problems.

I can narrow down my problem here:
In my application, the web page contains a "textarea". As user types in the "textarea" and submits the form, the pl/sql procedure that accepts the textarea's content is a "varchar2" variable that cannot accept any text value greater than "3072byte". If I put more than 3072byte in the text area, I get error after the form is submitted: "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error".

How can I get the content of the textarea that has more than 3072bytes?

No...
Tried with clob to accept form content but it gives error:
"PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to...."

check the property of the varchar2 field....3072 restriction is something I have never encountered anywhere else!!!
