It works fine .......but i would like to try same using cursor i hv this code

cursor c1 is select * from customer
where name='joyjohn';

for i in c1 loop
dbms_output.put_line('The name is '||i.name);

when others then
WHEN others THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE ('The error code is '||to_char(sqlcode));

I can get dbms output when name is found but can;t get dbms output when i tried to get my exception back using data not in name column
