With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. multi-lingual and Euro symbol in 9i on Win2000

Hi,
I have an Oralce 9i database on Win2000. The character set is UTF8. The client is a Win2000 web server running aolserver. It has an NLS_LANG of WE8MSWIN1252

I also have a test environment with the 9i database having a character set of WE8MSWIN1252.

All machines have a code page of  437 (chcp) which I now understand to be the default american codepage.

When the application inserts and selects back Irish characters (áéóú) - Alt GR and aeou they look fine to the application, but a select from the database shows me rubbish. Also I cannot insert an Euro symbol, it shows up as a black square block.

Questions:
1.Do I need to change the codepage on the servers / clients?

2. Does the NLS_LANG on the clients have to match the codepage, or the server's character set?
