i am wanting to resize my redo log file
i have 3 groups to be resized (named redo01.log -> redo03.log)
i know i must use
ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE GROUP x
('X/Y/Z') SIZE 1M;
then ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;
then ALTER DATABASE DROP LOGFILE GROUP x;
if 1 is current and 2 and 3 are inactive.
what do i add first, how many times do i enter ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;
and what one do i drop.
what is the order i should do things?
ALSO, when i have completed the add/drop process, what numbers will the groups be?
(will they be redo04.log -> redo06.log? how do i keep them redo01.log -> redo03.log?)

First create group 4, group 5, and group 6.
Then switch log file 3 times.
Then remove groups 1, 2 and 3.
Yes, you are correct. You'll have groups 4, 5 and 6 after these steps.
I you want to keep groups 1, 2 and 3 to keep your database nice;
Create groups 1, 2 and 3.
Switch log files 3 times.
Remove groups 4, 5 and 6.
This way you'll have at leased 3 groups at any instance of time.

if 1 is active
I'd drop 3 and recreate it
switch to 2
drop 1 and recreate
switch to 3
drop 2 and recreate
This should keep the numbers the same.
