The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

 • The Grade of the Solution
 • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
 • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
 • The Number of Experts Contributing
 • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

oracle 9i database automatic start problem

Asked by morak2001 in Oracle Database

hi all,
I have just installed an oracle 9i database on my WinXP Pro machine. When i was installing the database it was failing due to database creation script error. I figured out the problem by following command set:

oradim -new -sid <sid_name> -startmode manual -pfile 'c:\oracle\admin\<sid_name>\pfile\init.ora'
oradim -startup -sid <sid_name> -starttype srvc

By now everything is OK except when i start my machine, it starts the TNS service and database service(OracleService<sid_name>), but it doesn't start and open the database. For each startup of the database i have to login as sys/pass_of_sys_user and open the database.

I searched the web, perform googling but no direction solved my problem. Here are some things that i tried, but didn't worked:
1-in the registry, there is a key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0 named <sid_name>_AUTO_START(may not be exactly correct:) ), its value was FALSE, changed it to TRUE but it didn't help.
2-i have another oracle database installation which starts normally. I compared the initialization parametrs of two database, synchronized them, again it didn't work.
3-checked out the c:\oracle\ora92\database\OraDim.log file, the error codes were
Tue Dec 14 15:21:00 2004
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist

Tue Dec 14 15:21:01 2004
ORA-01078: sistem parametrelerini işlemede başarısızl

I looked for this errors and their solutions on the net, but still there were nothing that helped me.
For now i created a batch file, that starts the database. I put it to windows startup list, it works. But i don't want this unelegant solution and want to the database open automatically when i start my machine.
So any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance
