Oracle Backup Script for Oracle 9i

Can anyone provide me with a working script and batch file for doing a cold backup on Microsoft NT. This is my first attempt at backing up the database and I am trying the
following

Batch file = @echo off
                  sqlplus @shutdownscript
                  copy files
                  sqlplus @startupscript

Script file = sys/<<syspassword>>@sidname<< as sysdba

All I got was TNS errors 12154 and 12203. the sid name is correct.
Any ideas?
I really do not want to use ORADIM air NET Stop had no success with them either.
