Question

problem in running a user defined function.

i created follwing procedure and function just for learning purpose.

The procedure written as below runs well.

create or replace procedure del_emp_rec(n IN number) is
      begin
            delete emp where sal = n;
            commit;
      end;

it was run using :

SQL> begin
2 del_emp_rec(1000);
3 end;
4 /

Then i cerated similar function. But it gives an error :

create or replace function del_emp_rec_fun(n IN number) return number is
      begin
            delete emp where sal = n;
            commit;
            return(10);
      end;

when i tried to run it, it said :

SQL> select del_emp_rec_fun.sql(1000) from dual;
select del_emp_rec_fun.sql(1000) from dual
*
ERROR at line 1: ORA-06571: Function SQL does not guarantee not to update database

Why it resulted in error ? what is the problem and soloution?
