The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Merging records

A slightly different question here.

I have the following data structure.

NINO       START_DATE  END_DATE
---------- ----------- -----------
AA000001   01-jan-2000 25-feb-2000
AA000001   26-feb-2000 13-mar-2000
AA000001   14-mar-2000 20-apr-2000
AA000001   10-may-2001 11-may-2001
AA000001   15-may-2001 25-may-2001
AA000001   26-may-2001 25-jun-2001
AA000002   26-feb-2000 13-mar-2000
AA000002   20-jun-2003
AA000003   10-jan-2000 13-jan-2001
AA000003   14-jan-2001 20-jul-2004

I need to merge records where there is a continuation between the 2 records. ie the results here would be :-

AA000001   01-jan-2000 20-Apr-2000
AA000001   10-may-2001 11-may-2001
AA000001   15-may-2001 25-jun-2001
AA000002   26-feb-2000 13-mar-2000
AA000002   20-jun-2003
AA000003   10-jan-2000 20-jul-2004

I can easily do this by creating new records and using a plsql program, however, I need to update the original records. ie, I need to update the latest record with the earlier start date, and then delete (or at least mark for deletion), the non used records.

I have been at my wits end trying to find a good performant solution to do this, but alas, I need some divine inspiration.Start Free Trial
