The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

would like better performance on backup / recovery

Asked by jrb1 in Oracle Database

I am working in a database instance with several schemas.  I am interested in doing a backup and possibly recovery of one of the schemas.  I don't have any trouble with a full database backup recovery, but when trying to work on just one instance, it takes way too long.

The first obvious solution to this was export/import.  It is possible that the layout of database objects are changing.  So one method was to DROP USER xxxxx CASCADE.  This was taking hours, so today I first truncated all of the tables (assuming that it would reduce the REDO that would be written out) and did the DROP USER.  Well, that has been running for several hours now.  Any other ideas with this?  There is no referential integrity defined in system (foreign keys) and not many triggers, functions, or procedures.  There are over 13,000 tables, and over 6,000 views.  Each table has a primary key, and there are a few tables with additional indexes, not many.

In addition, the IMPORT has run a long time in the past.  I am trying a method recommended by Oracle where you generate a script to create the tables and a second script to create the indexes.  Then you create the tables, import the data, and then create the indexes.  Once the user has been deleted, I'll see how long this takes.  Any additional help for improving this process?

And last, what other ways do I have to improve this process?  Just general brainstorming is fine...any help is appreciated.
