calling java program inside Oracle8i Function

hi all,
I am a biginer in java programming,
i have this java class:
import java.sql.*;
import java.util.*;
public class RandDB1
{
      static String driver;
      static String url,query;
      static String un="scott";
      static String pws="tiger";
      static Connection connection;
      static ResultSet rs;
      static Statement statement;
      static int j;
      public static String mypg()
      {
            try
            {
                  driver ="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
                  url="jdbc:oracle:oci8:@mohora";
                  Class.forName( driver );
                  connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url,un,pws);


                  statement = connection.createStatement();
                  int x = 180;
                  String y="Hello";
                  query="insert into emp(empno,ename) values("+x+",'"+y+"')";
                  int j = statement.executeUpdate( query );
                  connection.commit();
                  System.out.println(j+" record inserted");
            statement.close();
            connection.close();
            }
            catch ( ClassNotFoundException cnfex )
            {
                  System.out.print("Error 1");
            }
            catch ( SQLException sqlex )
            {
                  System.out.print("Error 2: "+sqlex);
            }
            return "A";
      }
}

i load it in the oracle8i as follow:
loadjava -user scott/tiger RandDB1.class

declare variable y;
create this functoin:

 create or replace FUNCTION HELLOWORLD11 RETURN  varchar2 is
   language java name 'RandDB1.mypg() return java.lang.String';
and call it like this:

 call HELLOWORLD11() into :y;
when i print y it is A
but no record added to emp table.
please help me fixing this problem
