Exporting 9i database and importing into 10g

I have a 9i database that has a series of tables with Binary columns in it.  I am wondering how I can create an export of that database and import it into a 10g instance, while preserving the binary data stored in the 9i tables.  I have tried using the exp programs from 9i and the imp program from 10g, but that has not worked.  Am I missing some kind of setting?
