The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Database Peformance Issues

I have a very weird perfomance issue:

I have a client with the following environment:

Windows server 2003
physical memory 3 gb
CPU  2x 899 MHZ
Raid 5

Oracle 9.2.0.3 recently upgraded from 8.1.7.3
30 gig database
Shared memory 600 Mg
Db Cache size 800 Mg
Redo log 40 mg

This database was upgraded in February and ran smoothly until last week, this is a financial database and they were hitting it heavy with month end work and running reports.  It was running extremely slow, I tried to get in to run some performance queries and my queries just hung.  I need to run these scripts while people are accessing the database but they are just hanging.  This is a catch 22 situation.

Can someone advise as to what the problems may be?  I am at a loss because the previous 2 month ends ran fine.
