Questions about Index rebuilding? should we do that?

Hello all,
I am having problems with the growth of indexes in my database... one of my index tablespace lose 30MB+ data on daily basis and this is not normal.. .this rate is accelerating... i discussed this issue in following question

There i decided to go for index rebuilding... while i was digging more in this topic i came across Tom's views about index rebuilding... after reading it i felt like stupid to have even thought about rebuilding indexes... following are the articles

Tom claims that there is no use of rebuilding index.. its waste of time, resources and efforts... i rebuilt my indexes one year back.. and i reclaimed a lot of space.. i did it in test now... and i reclaimed 40% space back from those big indexes..

i am interested in rebuilding big indexes (if not all) coz
1.  first they are big as compared to their tables
2.  secondly, now oracle has started assigning 8M extent every 3rd day to each of the indexes ... in my previous question somebody told me that due to index size, oracle has extended the extent size to be allocated.

Question is... should i rebuild the indexes? should i also collect statistics for rebuilt indexes?Start Free Trial
