RMAN uses dbms_file_transfer to move the files between disk groups.
If you don't want to use RMAN, you can call the dbms_file_transfer package yourself.

Browse All TopicsI need to migrate some tablespaces from tier 1 storage to tier 2 storage under ASM. To do this I have created a new disc group in ASM based on the tier2 storage array and now need to migrate the data files for certain tablespaces over to it.
How do I move a data file in ASM from one disc group to another? I know about moving the data file using an RMAN "copy" but is there not a more succinct way of doing it? I can use RMAN if I have to but these moves must be scripted so I am trying to keep the solutuion as clean and simple as possible.
Any suggestsions gratefully received.
