Converting an Oracle Database to Oracle RAC Database.

Hi guys I have difficulty in understanding one thing,
                                   I went through the two day RAC DBA  documentation. There one of the topic was ' converting an Oracle Database to an Oracle RAC Database' . What I am not understanding is ' Is this the case  when we  are adding another node with oracle database to an existing RAC database.' Or this is for different scenerio.
