Trying to create clone - getting ORA-00308: cannot open archived log '#'

I am trying to create a clone db
Everything appears fine until I do:
recover automatic database until cancel using backup controlfile

then I get
ORA-00279: change 21833539624 generated at 05/11/2008 16:37:30 needed for
thread 1
ORA-00289: suggestion : /u11/oraarch/pro1/1_1_654453450.dbf
