The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

7.8
We are in the process of upgrading both the database and middle tier (Oracle Forms and Reports) from Oracle 9i Release 2 to Oracle 10g Release 2.  The Oracle upgrade has now been completed on a development database and it is now necessary to produce a test plan and perform detailed testing of a large application which comprises many routines written in a variety of Pro*C, SQL*Plus, Pl/sql (scripts, packages, triggers etc), Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports and SQL*Loader.

I would very much appreciate any pointers to documents or information from personal experience on the functional differences between the 9i and 10g database and toolset that are likely to cause us problems.

Please note, I'm not interested in 10g New Features, I am familiar with these.  I'm trying to pre-empt the areas of change in functionality within the toolset and database that may cause problems.  For example, when dropping a primary key constraint on 9i the associated unique index is also dropped by default.  On 10g, as I've found, the unique index is NOT dropped by default, so it is necessary to modify the drop statements to specify the DROP INDEX keywords.  Is this change in functionality documented anywhere?  If so, I would hope that other issues affecting code written on a 9i toolset/database would also be documented.
