Set 'MONITORING' on for that tabel and indexes.
Gather stats for only maybe 20% rows.

Browse All TopicsI have a table with 8.8 million rows. This is a relatively key table that gets queried or updated with nearly every transaction.
Every once in a while (about every 60 to 90 days) the nightly process that recalculates statistics causes a problem on this table. Which in turn causes serioud performance issues in the application.
A simple recalculation of the statistics resolves the problem when it happens. But that recalculation takes about 30 minutes.
I would like to prevent this issue from happening -- or at least reduce the occurances. Does anyone have any tips or hints on how to mitigate this issue?

get good statistics once and then lock them....
s('YOUR_SC HEMA','YOU R_TABLE',' ALL')
dbms_stats.lock_table_stat
or, export the statistics each day and if you ever have a bad run, rather than recalculate them all just reimport the previous day's stats or however many days you need to go back to get a good set.
also, I recommend trying to determine what happens to the data every 2 or 3 months that is so radically different that is skews the statistics
