Once the error screen disappears the application closes down. I have tried re-installing but this still has no effect. The application still refuses to load.

Running Oracle Discoverer Desktop v10.1.2.2 and when trying to open the desktop icon we receive the following error in the event log:
Application Error ID 1000
Faulting application dis51usr.exe, version 10.1.2.50, faulting module mfc42.dll, version 6.2.4131.0, fault address 0x000103f9.
Has anyone came across this before and if so did they resolve it? AT present it only affects a limited number of users. And is getting increasingly anoying.
Thanks

Search for the file mfc42.dll on a failing machine and on a machine without the problem.
1. Check how many copies of this file there are on the failing machine
2. Compare versions with the file on a good machine
3. You may need to copy the file from a good machine and overwrite the copy on the bad machine.
R.
The machines are identical to all other on the network. All patchies are the same as all others on the domain. It's not profile related, hardware or even software as we have 100's of identical machines that the user can logon to and it works fine. But on their own machines is is causing an issue. I have rebuilt the machines and after a few weeks if returns with the same issue again. Any other suggestions?
I just checked Metalink (I don't know if you have access) and the solution is silmilar to what I suggested earlier:
1. MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE you only have 1 copy of the corrupt file on the failing machine
2. Rename the file
3. Copy the file from a good machine to replace the renamed copy on the faulty machine
If this doesn't work then I suggest you raise a tar with Oracle.
To ensure you have a single file on the faulty machine(s), I'll even recommend searching for the file in the registry.
Did you check the events log?
If you get desperate, I'll recommend swapping RAM !!!

Are you able to proceed after receiving this error or does the application crashes out?
I would suggest you consider reinstalling the application on one machine to see if it resolves it.
