oracle patch apply

hey i have oracle 9i on windows xp so i would now like to apply oracle 10.2.04 on this oracle 9i on windows xp. so what are the steps do i need to do and also what is the patern whether i can directly apply 10.2.0.4 patch on 9i or first i need to apply 10.2.0.1 than 10.2.0.4

Yes, you need to upgrade first from 9i to 10.2.

make sure after you download the patch from metalink that you read the readme for this patch and follow the steps one by one;
One of the greatest mistakes DBA's do is that they thunk patching is a stereotypr process for all patches;
it is not some patches require specific tasks pre or post the patch which without they will faill;

hey guys when i was trying to follow steps as mention in read me file of oracle 10.2.0.4 from oracle 9.2.0.1 it was asking me to read document id 553812.1. but when i was trying to open this document getting this error i have attach the sccreen shot of it

:) that is funny it appears like metalink was down or had few issues;
could be because classic metalink is retiring that is way they are pushing you away from using it;
you should not use classic metalink any more!

When i enter metalink.oracle.ora. its just showing login username and password its not showing whether its connecting with classic metalink or any other.what might be the problem and how can i resolve it

There r 2 radio buttons under the login screen if u cannt swwthem try to delete ur cookies oruse anotherbrowser u have to enable flash for the new one
