The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

From Access to PostgreSQL

Asked by calinutz in PostgreSQL Database

I need more info on how to migrate my MDB from MS Access to PostgreSQL. I want to rewrite my application that uses this mdb... for using PostgreSQL.
I would like to know if there is any other way of exporting the database to PostgreSQL (or importing from Access into PostgreSQL), except for the method of saving the tables into cvs files and then taking them in Postgre...?
I did not try this method but I am affraid of loosing field properties... such as data type fields... autoincrement fields...
Maybe Postgre does not even have support for autoincrement (is there any way of simulating it - except for the manual way?)
So first of all: my database (Access) is 175 MB in size (Compacted), and contains tables  (lowercase table and field names)
with fields in this area:
integer, decimal (16,2), currency general format, Text, boolean, date
..Now... what can I do to successfully export my mdb database to a PostgreSQL database situated on a FreeBSD platform?

I tryed to do that using the export function from MS Access and while my PostgreSQL driver is installed on my system... i succeeded to export some of the tables but not with the exact same data inside them... Seems like there is an alteration in the values in this process. And with some tables I received an error message (can't remember it right now), but the error may be comming from the fact that the respective tables had names with alternate Lowercase/Uppercase letters, such as ComisAgent. Anyway I suppose I will not run into that error again as for I've changed the names of the tables into lowercase names.

If anyone can give me a step by step "tutorial" on how to make this work then I'll reward him with 500 points and a grade A
Thanks
:-)
