query a given date range

hello. im trying to query between dates for example:

select * from bookings where date between '12/28/2008' and '12/29/2008'

date is a timestamptz datatype.
how do i do this in postgres?

The only thing is you need to be careful that upper and lower limits are not inculsive. If you want them to be inclusive then you might rewrite your query as
SELECT *
  FROM bookings
 WHERE DATE BETWEEN TO_CHAR ('12/27/2008') AND TO_CHAR ('12/30/2008');

I believe you want your functions to be TO_DATE,  not TO_CHAR  and you should use explicit format masks


SELECT *
  FROM bookings
 WHERE DATE BETWEEN TO_DATE ('12/27/2008','mm/dd/yyyy')
                               AND TO_DATE('12/30/2008','mm/dd/yyyy');

Yes I think Sean is right!. But be careful  with the limiting dates to be included.

You shouldn't need to do anything different. Your query should work as you have it written there. Implicit casts should take care of everything.

Alternatively, you could explicitly cast the values:

SELECT *
FROM bookings
WHERE DATE BETWEEN '2008-12-27'::timestamp with time zone AND '2008-12-30'::timestamp with time zone;
