Ca anyone advie the best way i ca go about this.

One tool you may want to look at is Grinder: http://grinder.sourceforge .net/
It is primarily targeted at web load testing, which of course could also be of use to you as you are talking about a web application. However, you can test anything which can be driven with Java or Python libraries, so if you load the PostgreSQL JDBC drivers, you could directly load test your database. See the 'jdbc.py' test script in the examples directory.
