The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problem with connection in Business Objects ReportViewer

Tags: Business Objects, Crystal Reports, XI R2, Failed to open the connection. Cannot open database.
Hello, I hope you can help...

I have Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 installed on a server, we are using Crystal Reports to report off a SQL Server database.  We have built several Business Views and published them to the repository on the server.  We can create reports in Crystal (XI R2) using the Business Views and the reports run fine as standalone reports on client machines.

However, if we publish the reports to the repository and try to run them through InfoView, the report fails and we gett he following error:

Failed to open the connection. Cannot open database. Failed to open the connection. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{CA6754B9-0342-4776-9E9F-71A6CA9D24C0}.rpt

ERROR: Failed to open the connection. Cannot open database. Failed to open the connection. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{CA6754B9-0342-4776-9E9F-71A6CA9D24C0}.rpt

I have set the connection for the Business View to use integrated security, with single sign on (tried with & without this option) using OLE DB SQL Server driver. InfoView is configured to use AD authentication using NTLM with single sign on.

If I try to build a report directly in InfoView I get the following error:

WebReporting.dll '0x800002F4'
Failed to open the connection.
Cannot open database.
Failed to open the connection.
UNKNOWN.RPT
line: 14349

Interestingly, if I build a report directly off the database (i.e. bypassing the Business View) if I use an RDO connection, I get a similar message:

Failed to open the connection. Failed to open the connection. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{699B5125-A1EA-4E14-9A51-07E739380546}.rpt

ERROR: Failed to open the connection. Failed to open the connection. C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{699B5125-A1EA-4E14-9A51-07E739380546}.rpt

However, if I use ADO, it does work, although it (annoyingly) prompts me for the user credentials.

Any ideas?
