calculate month-to-date in universe for webi reports in business objects.

I've a field "Account Date" of datatype datetime in sql server 2005. I need to add a filter criteria in my webI report where this "Account Date" is in Month-to-date, i.e. i need to see all records for the month-to-date period. I'm trying to create a formula in universe but it doesn't work. Could anyone plz tell me how to compare this "account date" to month to date and if i need to change the datatype too?
