what kind of formua do I have to put in there?
just something like CreateDate=Now() AND Username='abc' which either evaluates to true or false? or do I have to return something?

Try this to suppress the whole detail section
Open the report
Click FORMAT --> FORMAT SECTION
Click the FORMULA button {X-2} next to suppress
Enter your formula
Select the fields from the field list
Save the report
Run it
You may have trouble with the DATE since it may include the time. You may need to extract the date from your field and use CurrentDate
