Question

CRW command line switches?

Asked by: deBronkart

I've found that I can open a report with Crystal Reports XI from a batch file.  (This is a minor convenience for my users, but it's appreciated. It avoids needing to browse to the desired report, and for people with carpal tunnel that's nice.)

I've seen the links here to Ken Hamady's third-party utilities, and we'll explore them.  Meanwhile:  are there any command line switches that might be useful to know about?

INteresting.  I wasn't aware you could do that.  Is Crystal installed on the machine?

I am not aware of any switches and the references I have don't mention the ability.

Coming from you, that means something! :-)

But there's a gotcha of sorts.

Here's the trivial batch file I used

"c:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11\crw32.exe" MyReport.rpt

The gotcha is that this command window is locked up until that instance of CR closes.

Thanks for the URL links.  I'll fiddle with them in the morning.  (Well, okay, it IS the morning.  I'll fiddle with it during daylight, heh.)

If you want to free the command window use the start command in your batch file.

start "some window title" "c:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11\crw32.exe" MyReport.rpt

Thanks - it's been a long time since I learned something about DOS (or its descendant).

That sure piques my curiosity...  I haven't laid my hands on anything newer than that version - have you (or anyone else)?

Nope.  Just found that when searching for command line switches in the Crystal knowledge base.  They used to be pretty good about updating the articles so maybe there aren't any updates.

glad i could help
