Adding images to OLE object in Crystal Reports 11

I inserted the OLE object as a Bitmap Image (Create New).  After inserting I used the Format Editor (Format Graphic) and under the Picture tab - Graphic Location is where I inserted the formula.

I do not get errors.  The gif and bmp images do not display.  The blank object displays.

The permissions appear to be the same for gif, bmp and jpeg files.  All the graphic images are added to DacEasy in the same way.

DacEasy stores the filename and extension of all the graphic image files in the database in this field {ProductBitmap.FileName}.  It keeps the images in a separate folder (Images).  I can browse the database field in Crystal Reports and see all the jpeg, gif and bmp image files that are supposed to display.  For some reason, only the jpeg files display.  The images are in no particular order so it will display the first 50 images which are jpeg, leave blank the next 6 which are gif, display the next 5 jpeg, leave blank the next one which is bmp, etc.

I'm not familiar with DacEasy, but I suspect it may be a problem with the way the images are stored.  jpg is pretty standard and hard to mess up.  Both gif and bmp though have different options for color depth and transparency and Crystal has never been very good at handling any variation of these image formats.  My recommendation would be to check DacEasy and see if there are any options associated with how the gif/bmp images are saved and experiment with those to find the one that Crystal likes.

Obviously you could solve this easily by converting all your images to jpg's but I assume you don't want to do that or you wouldn't have asked this question?

I just discovered the following on the Business Objects website:

"In Crystal Reports XI, the 'Dynamic Image Location' feature does not work with images in GIF format. Why does this behavior occur and how can you resolve it?"

"Resolution
This behavior occurs because Crystal Reports XI does not fully support the GIF file format. To resolve this behavior, use a supported image format when working with the 'Dynamic Image Location' feature. Supported image formats are Joint Photographic Experts (JPG), bitmap (BMP), Tagged Image File Format (TIF) and Portable Network Graphics (PNG)."

I thought that one of the pictures I was trying to display was a .bmp but it was only the GIF format pictures that were not displaying.
