Question

Crystal report suppressing first detail record of pages after page one.

Asked by: NettieEckenrode

Hi,

I have a Crystal Report that I need every other page of the report to print the "Terms and Conditions".  I have created a crystal report for the terms and conditions to insert as a sub-report into a group footer and set the properties to insert a new page before and after and, with your assistance, I have been able to hide the page header and footer sections with the (PageNumber MOD 2)=0 function.  All this works great if the invoice is only one page long.  I need it to run as follows:

Invoice Header
Detail
Detail
Detail
Detail

Page Break

Terms and Conditions

Page Break

Invoice Header
Detail
Detail
Detail
Detail

Invoice Footer

Page Break

Terms and Conditions

Page Break

I inserted the sub report a second time into a detail section putting the (PageNumber MOD 2) <>0 into the suppress section formula and a third time into a group footer below the invoice footer.  Now every other page on a multi-page invoice is the terms and conditions, but crystal suppresses the first detail record on the subsequent pages.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nettie

Try adding a second detail section and putting the subreport in it.  Just suppress the second one

ADD a new GROUP FOOTER SECTION and place the subreport there, then change the SECTION EXPERT to "print a new page after" for the Group Footer 1 and do the same for the NEW Group Footer 2 section that you just added.

You may need to play with the "new page after" option for the sections,... in order to get it just right.

Hope this helps..

To ADD the section, right click in the gray area to the left of the GROUP FOOTER AREA..of the report...and when the menu pops up...choose INSERT SECTION BELOW...

The sub-report is in the following sections:
Detial_M:  Suppress section:  {@RFEndOfReport} or  (PageNumber MOD 2) <> 0
Group_Footer_2b: Suppress section:  {@RFEndOfReport}=false
                          New Page After is Checked

Group_Footer_2d:  Suppress Sections: (PageNumber MOD 2) = 0
                             New Page After is Checked

Group_Footer_2c contains the invoice footer with the total amount and payment information.  That containes the following formulas:
                          Suppress sections:  {@RFEndOfReport} or {@MidSection} or (PageNumber MOD 2) = 0
Print at bottom of page is checked

Example of the issue:

This invoice has 37 lines.  Lines 1 thru 26 fit on the first page, the next page(2) should be the terms and conditions sub report only then page(3) should print lines 27 thru 37; however, line 27 prints at the top of page(2) then the sub-report and lines 28 thru 37 print on page(3).

I don't know what else to do.

The group footers only print at the end of a group.  Is line 26 the end of a group?

mlmcc

by: NettieEckenrodePosted on 2006-12-11 at 19:12:23ID: 18120031

The sub-report printing with line 27 is the detail_m section and the one at the end is the group footer.  Sorry, I should have stated that before.

by: mlmccPosted on 2006-12-11 at 20:22:57ID: 18120253

If line 27 is still in the detail section then you haven't reached the group footer.  SO you need to get the group to fit onto the first page.  The report is working as you designed it.

Yes and no, line 27 of the invoice should not be printing on page 2 with the "Detail_M" detail section.

Detail_A: Contains the line items for the invoice.  If I put this formula in the Suppress Section area for Detail_a (PageNumber MOD 2)=0 then the line doesn't print at all.  If I remove the formula, the line prints on page 2 with the sub report and the rest of the lines print on page 3 where they are supposed to print.

Detail_M contains the sub-report:  Detail_M:  Suppress section:  {@RFEndOfReport} or  (PageNumber MOD 2) <> 0

Essentially, invoice information should print on odd numbered pages and all even numbered pages should have the sub-report only.

I hope this makes sense.

Would it help if I e-mailed a copy of the report?

It might but EE rules prohibit use email to solve a problem.  You could upload it (zipped) to ee-stuff.com and post a link to the file here.

Problem with that is trying to change the report generally requires attaching to the data source.

Your format is as I expected.  Detail M must complete before the group footer will print.

One idea would be to put a new detail section between L and M with the subreport and suppress if not on page2.

Will detail m generally print on the first page?

by: NettieEckenrodePosted on 2006-12-13 at 08:12:26ID: 18131601

Detail M contains the sub-report and I set it to suppess on odd numbered pages.  That part works,  I just need the one detail a to stop printing at the top of the page with detail m.

by: mlmccPosted on 2006-12-13 at 08:14:31ID: 18131623

Not sure what you are tryng to do.

When detail a is printed it won't know if detail m will be on that page or not.

Detail a should only print on odd numbered pages

by: mlmccPosted on 2006-12-13 at 09:29:36ID: 18132349

I understand that aspect.  However unless a section completely finishes on a page it will complete on the next page.

Let me try one thing to see if you can have different page headers and what happens.  perhaps you can put the even page subreport in a page header and suppress it on even pages.

ok, I figured out how to do it.  I created a running total field called "rLineCount" and set it to reset at each change in group.  I figured out that there are 28 detail lines that can print on each page and set the following formula in the New Page After section of Detail_a:

({#rLineCount}=28 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=56 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=84 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=112 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=140 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=168 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=196 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=224 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=252 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0)) or
({#rLineCount}=280 or ((({FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) = {FSReport_Section.ReportSectionRef}) and (PageNumber MOD 2)= 0));

Since invoices will rarely go beyond 2 pages this formula should cover all instances.  All the tests that I have done appear to work, I am waiting for feedback from our accounting department.
