Conditional Text formatting - Highlighting or Background Color

I have a text box in the report header section that contains the following:

" Sample Text {@field1} sample Text"

I want to be able to highlight Field1, how ever since it is contained within the text box Crystal won't let me format the background of the field itself, or use the highlight expert on field1.

Is there any way to apply formatting the background on field1 with having to apply it to the whole text box ?
