The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Is this possible?

Right-Click on the field and Format Field
Set Suppress duplicates.

05.09.2008 at 12:01AM PDT, ID: 21530827
Hi peter
yes, I tryed that but unfortunately no luck.
I check the appropriate boxes and select Suppress if duplicated but nothing changes.
I am doing this in group footer 3 as that is where we set up my SZ[x]array to print.

Any ideas what to try next?

Thanks

Are you saying that what you have shown as your current result is just one block of text built in a formula field?

If it is, then you will have to test the values in the formula field as you add them to the block.

05.09.2008 at 01:52AM PDT, ID: 21531177
well im getting 3 group footer lines (as above) from this array you helped me set up

peter57r:The actions need to do this are:
create a group on Widget and a second group on Colour.

In the Colour group header you need a formula field to initialise an array:
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar array sz;

redim sz[7];
//sz(1) xs;
//sz(2) s;
//sz(3) m;
//sz(4) l;
//sz(5) xl;
//sz(6) xxl;
""
In the detail line you have a formula field to accumulate the quantities:

whileprintingrecords;
numbervar array sz;

//sz(1) xs;
//sz(2) s;
//sz(3) m;
//sz(4) l;
//sz(5) xl;
//sz(6) xxl;
select{history.size}
case "xs":
    (sz[1]:=sz[1]+{history.Quantity})
case "s":
   (sz[2]:=sz[2]+{history.Quantity})
case "m":
   (sz[3]:=sz[3]+{history.Quantity})
case "l":
    (sz[4]:=sz[4]+{history.Quantity})
case "xl":
    (sz[5]:=sz[5]+{history.Quantity})
case "xxl":
   (sz[6]:=sz[6]+{history.Quantity});
""

In the Colour group footer you show the results:
whileprintingrecords;
numbervar array sz;
//sz(1) xs;
//sz(2) s;
//sz(3) m;
//sz(4) l;
//sz(5) xl;
//sz(6) xxl;
numbervar x;
stringvar tmp;
for x:=1 to 6 do
(tmp:=tmp &  right("     " & totext(sz[x],0),5) & "   ");
tmp

Add headings to the results and suppress all the sections you don't want to see.

This is the result, which is perfect

THe next step is to suppress the dups

this is what i need

I don't understand how you are getting multiple lines in one footer section?

05.09.2008 at 02:36AM PDT, ID: 21531333

I think It's because I'm puttin the details in group footer #3{history.colour} and I have, in some cases, 3 colours for the same stylecode. so its printing 3 lines in group footer 3 (for say red, blue and, green)

Widget    Description   RRP        COLOUR        SIZERANGE

Does taht make sence?

Not to me.

It sounds to me like you are doing something that is impossible in CR.  Therefore I have to conclude that I don't understand what you are doing.

Can you save your report with data and post it ? It is most intriguing how you got those results considering the array that is being built up does not contain the description fields to the left of the "size array". That is where the confusion from the experts is coming from. You have happened upon a very interesting result, and probably has a very easy answer - except that we might need to see the report to provide the answer - right now it really doesn't make too much sense how it is achievable. Very clever though...

Morning Experts

I can't post it as the extension is not supported.
What an abosolute pain.

Is there a way to do as mark suggests and post it with the data?!

Simply copy it to myreport.rpt.txt

Can I give you points for answering the question above. 250pts =)

Please excuse my messyness it's only half finished and I'm learning as i go and im certainly not clever

Yep, they are in group footer 3 - and no need to apologise - can suggest a few tidy ups, but nothing too drastic - doing great.

The suppress dupes wont cut it when each line represents a different sub-total.

Have you ever played with sub-reports ?

Will get back to you in a short while, have one other deadline to meet, and back onto this tonight (Australia time).

05.09.2008 at 07:27PM PDT, ID: 21537609

Any suggestions would be great!

Aww thank you and what do you suggest if i cant suppress the fields? a subreport ? No I haven't really tryed any sub reports, would that mean i have to start again?  Its all abit cluttered isn't it. I have about 8 other things i can't seem to get to function on this report but i'll post them individually. I need to get this report out coz the companies are getting a bit upset. THis is the first of many reports Intergrated with OSIPOS Softwear i am re-doing from DOS to Crystals. we do all the major surf labels and retailors around Australia and NZ. Its Overwelming since im the only one here to do them all. BUt one step at a time .. as i said any suggestions would be big heads up for me

Thanks heaps!

05.11.2008 at 07:42PM PDT, ID: 21544406
Hi, think you are going to have to describe the report a bit to me. Seems like we have totals in Group 1, headers in footer 2, details that do not add up in footer 3.

What I started to do, but then thought best to get back to you... was to use group 2 header to show style code and the size headers, moving toward individual colours where they currently exist. That was starting to work, but then had the SOH and QTY to contend with and in some places QTY in the size summary was showing 2 but only showing 1 on the left - obviously needs to be a sum.

So, if you wouldn't mind descibing the layout of the report, it would help quite a bit - e.g. the Group 1 Header is a summary of all the items below for 'xxx' group. The size matrix - as a heading appears at the bottom of each group. Are there any 'special' reasons for the slightly unconventional way of showing it ? Or, do I have it wrong (ie the GF2 footer is actually something else).

Nearly there... Cheers,

05.11.2008 at 08:25PM PDT, ID: 21544491
Hi Mark
             Yes i Put totals in group 1 so they end user can see totals first, we can leave that for now, and change it if i need later.

Okay
The heading in GF2 needs to be a heading, i know its in the footer( i can't work out how else to do it... err I am feeling very silly at this point coz obvioulsy a heading goes in the header not the footer BUT ...)

  if i put it in Group header #1 , the matrix only shows once on the top of the page, when there may be 10 different sizes ranges on one page. so i jsut leave it in the footer, an i was gona try fix that later(HOW i DON"T KNOW !)

NO you are right, it's printing upside down.. i do need the matrix to print first(as a header!! supprisingly not a footer) and then the relevent size details underneath.

Describing the report- NO you have it right!!  there is no special reason why the heading is printing at the bottom of the group.. i just know it sort off works like this, and i've got this far so i dont wana go changing things and break it!! i can see the problem im just affraid now to move things around to fix it!!

yep Group Header #1 is a summary of all the items below for 'xxx' group (we can change that later)

DO you know how i can get the header "size matrix" to print first? and yes i need the quantities to add up!!

Thanks  you so much for your patients and persistance

It's fantastic!

Okay, i unsuppressed Group header #2. Suppressed the the Stylecode group header and moved the matrix header to group header #2. it works sweet.

was so simple, im a dufas.

I had the style code header and moved the other non-color specific items (like unit price etc) up there as well - that way you only get the repeating / unique fields underneath almost exactly what you are looking for... See below as an idea, but by the sounds of it you are on the right track...
