Crystal Reports designer will not connect to local SQL Server instance.

Hi,

On my XP Pro SP2 machine the following is installed...
Crystal Reports designer v8.5
SQL Server Express 2005
Visual Studio 2005 Professional

I cannot connect to the SQL Instance from the Crystal Reports designer...
I get 'Login Error' 'Unable to connect to VMXP01\SQLEXPRESS'

I CAN connect to the SQL Instance using code in VB.Net and run the designed report (report was designed on another machine - but also using CR v8.5) using the Report Viewer control
 - therefore user name, password, SQL configuration would seem to be OK ?

Other info.
Event logs show no errors.
In SQL Server 2005 Configuration application Local and Remote Connections for TCP/IP and Name Pipes is enabled.
SQL Server Authentication is set for both Windows and SQL Authentication modes.
Have tried disabling firewall (shoudn't be relevant as programs are local)
Have tried trusted connection in CR - again - cannot connect.

Any help appreciated...

Rob
