Automating Crystal Reports with parameters.

Hi.

I've got my first report translated from Sage Retrieve 4GL to Crystal Reports XI. I've got the nested parameters working along with appropriate repeated headers/footers/etc. All nice.

I now need to "script" the report to be able to provide the parameters programmatically and then to produce a PDF output.

My scripting language is PHP.

The company does have Crystal Reports Server (I don't know anything about it).

The report is currently generated for each customer for each head office. Around 1,800 reports. The Retrieve 4GL app generates 1 BIG report file which is printed and separated by hand.

Now that I've got the report in Crystal, I want to be able to produce a PDF for each customer. But I can't have someone selecting each individual contract/customer. They would be there all day.

Another option is can I get Crystal to produce a PDF automatically on each new Group Header 1. That would be a very nice option, but I can't see anything like that.

My goal is automation. If it takes a computer an hour to do this, then that is fine. We tried getting a user to actually run the report by hand for every customer. It would take around 11 hours by hand.

Again, and as always, advice, comments, suggestions, even a good joke, are all happily accepted.

And this is only day 3 for me with Crystal Reports.

Regards,

Richard Quadling.

There is no splitting capability within CR.
There is a 3rd party tool which will do it.
Look here:

and take a look at the product Visual Cut.

I haven't used it but it does get recommended here by others.

I have used CRD by ChristianSteven Software. It has a Dyanmic Schedule feature which can seperate the reports out and distribute them accordingly.
