The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

CR XI Developer's Ed - Restore of Installation to Different Server Config.

Hello Experts,
I hope the New Year finds you, and yours, all well.  Mine has been off to a rocky start.

My primary Win 2003 Enterprise Server crashed Dec 30th, then I discovered the backups of the OS were corrupt.  Therefore, I had to rebuild the OS and all apps on the unit from scratch, pulling data out of the backup files to reconstruct the previous configurations and data.

Well, am at my last obstacle, and that is CR XI Developer's Edition. (CR Server and Reports).   After a lengthy pursuit of SAP, I was finally able to get my Product Keys from them, then both CR Server and Reports had installation issues.  In a sudden, but much delayed, stroke of frustrated genius I uninstalled Win Server 2003 SP2, and IE 7 for Win Server 2003, then reinstalled SP1 (same config previous to crash) and .NET v1.1 SP1 from MS Updates site, then viola, both installed without apparent issue.

BUT, I thought that restoring the previous Business Objects (CR) related directories to the Server then doing a CR Server and Reports installation over the top would restore to previous state, as that had worked for a number of other progs.  NOW, that might've worked, but during the Win Server Rebuild I added this machine to an existing NT4 Domain (RSD), rather than making it a PDC of its own Domain (RSDCORP), as it had been before.  Can't remember my reasoning, atm, but it seemed logical at the time.  I think I was trying to avoid re-creating the user and access structure during the rebuild.

Anyway, currently most of the CR XI Server services will not start - errors in Event Viewer seem to indicate "server registration" issues are keeping the services from starting.   Also, at some point I did see (can't remember where, possibly in investigating the possibility of importing data from backed up CR databases) that CR XI Server is addressing the data files with a reference to the Domain (RSDCORP) that I did not re-create.

And CR Reports also fails to start with the error "crw32.exe - Entry Point Not Found", (I will provide further details of error message, if anyone needs to see them), I am not sure if this issue is due to the CR XI Server problems.

And lastly, at some point I was able to open Infoview and see the CR Enterprise Report and User structure appear to be intact.  But could not open any Reports, as services will not start properly.

So, I wonder if anyone, with knowledge of CR XI Server, can help me to devise a plan of attack to get these problems resolved:
A)  CR XI Server - reinstalled with previous data and user information intact.
B)  CR XI Reports - functional again.

TIA!
Jeff
