Question

Hidden? formulas creating problem...

Asked by: DataQuest

I am modifying a report from Sage MAS 90/200 that was written in Crystal Reports 10. My data source is an Access Query connected through an Access/Excel (DAO) selected table in the Database Expert of Crystal. At an earlier stage of my work, I had deleted field names and formulas that were not being used with my current dataset; and clicking the preview button did work okay before, showing my work-in-progress.

Now, however, when I click to preview my progress, I get a diaglog box stating "This field name not known." When I click OK, it brings up the Formula Workshop - Format Formula Editor, with a formula named Suppress. It shows:

formula = {@DataOnly} = "Y"

What makes this perplexing is that I can neither locate the formula @Suppress nor the formula @DataOnly within either the Report Explorer or the Fields Explorer.

How do I find and delete or otherwise work-around these formulas/fields?

This will be a suppressions formula for either a field or a section.

You should see in the tree to the left the field / section mane where the formula is.

Also, can't you delete the contents of the formula from within the error window?

Or rather than deleting the formula code, comment it out by putting a ' as the first character on the line

There were no suppression formulas accessible via the Section Expert. Going into the Formula Workshop, I found the portion of the tree showing Formating Formulas. A suppression statement as shown in my question had been automatically placed under each field label copied (copy & paste) over from my source MAS 90/200 report. The others had automatically been commented out with the ' ; but for some reason one of these Formating Formulas was incomplete and not commented out. At least now I know where to go to fix this situation if this snag comes up again. Thanks both ravenblue and mlmcc for your help!
