The lnk between fields in the database and fields in the report folders is managed through the catalog. The quickest way I now of searching is to create an .ICR file Using the IMpromptu Administrator version.
1) Start IMpromptu Administrator
2) Click on Catalog Open and open the catalog. (You may need a creator password if it was added. A lot of people just user the word creator as the creator password so if you are not sure try that. In addition you will need a database login and password.)
3) Click on Catalog and seelct Content overview. This will create an .ICR file that you can import into a text editor and use find to get to the information you are looking for.

I should also add that some of the existing fields in the report are in the same table as the field I'm looking to add.
