im new to cognos 8 bi , and try to build cubes for analysis studio and report studio in excel. im seeking for guidelines and methods to build cubes.

Yes, transformer is a program that needs to be installed on your machine. If you are using 8.3 and above, you wouldn't need framework manager installed to create cubes.
Are you only handling the cubes portion of your cognos environment? What version are you on? Does someone else handle the framework manager and packages?
currently i have the version of Cognos supposingly 8, i only have excel access to cognos thru connection, that is to report and analysis studio. After searching thru i cant find framework manager around. Hence, i thought it might havent been installed. now i have to work on to create cubes for analysis and report studio.

The high level steps would be:
(I'm basing this off of 8.3 and above)
1) Create a report using report studio for the data that you want to use in the cube
2) Create a transformer model that users that report to create a cube
3) Publish the cube using transformer (also creating the datasource connection and package)
All done!
