Move Value from One Field to Another: Cognos Report Studio/JavaScript

I have a Report Studio report that pulls a date into an HTML item, and this is working fine. I want to pull this value into a different field, a Rich Text Field, using JavaScript. (Rich Text Fields print in PDF whereas the HTML object doesn't in Cognos). Let's say I have a field tagged as "AsOfDate" and another tagged as "RTFAsOfDate". What would be ideal would be to, in a single HTML object, pull in the date with a URL, call it www.server.dateurl.html, and then move it using JavaScript into the field called RTFAsOfDate.
