Passing macros values to DB2 datetime fields as parameters

I need to assign as parameter values to DB2 date fields sas macro values. This gives me the following error :

 CLI describe error: [IBM][CLI Driver][DB2/6000] SQL0401N  The data types of the operands for the operation "=" are not
       compatible.  SQLSTATE=42818
NOTE: PROC SQL set option NOEXEC and will continue to check the syntax of statements.

The values expected are year='2009' and month='09'

Databse info:
DB name: ABC
Schema : Product
Macro file stores the userid and password and they are correctly assigned as per logs.
