Exchange 2003 Relay question

Hi,

We are trying to send emails from Siebel CRM Marketing 7.8 but we get the error as mentioned below on our Exchange 2003 Server SP2. The below is true for any external email addresses.

Description:
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 2, connection #917. The client at "192.168.2.38" sent a "rcpt" command, and the SMTP server responded with "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for abhijitm00@gmail.com  ". The full command sent was "rcpt TO:<abhijitm00@gmail.com>".  This will probably cause the connection to fail. "

We are able to recieve emails internally within the domain. I have added the IP addresses of the CRM Marketing server, Exchange server on each of the SMTP virtual servers under the Relay option for "Select which computer may relay through this virtual server" option.  Questions I have are:

1. Is there anything which needs to be changed on DNS?
2.  Do the SMTP virtual servers need to be added to the safe list of IP addresses under the relay tab?
