The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Act for web architecture.

I have a client that is currently running act professional for workgroups for a network of circa 15 users.

The client wishes to expand this usage to a network of european offices - 5 or 6 offices encompassing a total of around 30 users.

The solution currently being touted if the act for web add-on, which seems to make sense.

The main office is currently using a 2mb down 512k up adsl line, which also does email etc, so will be woefully inadequate. As reliability and availabilty is topmost of our priorities, we think that we have two main choices.

1. A 2 meg leased line, running the web server directly from the office.
2. Hosting the web server at our ISP. And  a 2 meg leased line for the office.

this leaves a number of questions

Is a 2 meg line going to give a good user experience for 20-30 concurrent users?

If we go with web hosting remotely, the client is suggesting that the database is kept at the office so that the local users can still run the full client @ full speed, and just the web page generation is done at the ISP -

My thoughts (and I am no act expert) are that this may create a bottleneck between the ISP and office - and would prefer to stick the whole lot at the ISP. Am I correct in my thinking? - is it the the actual page generation & serving or the databse queries/replies that would use the most bandwidth.
