I'm looking for the instructions which tech support is providing to over-ride the wizard environmental checks so you can use the SQL named instance.

From the installatiog guide dated 10/2/2006:

Microsoft CRM Server Setup supports only the default instance of SQL Server.
Note: If you need to use a named instance of SQL Server, you must contact Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance.
