Question

Microsoft Outlook 2007 Messages Hang in Outbox on sporadic e-mails.

Asked by: Oneupweb

I have an Exchange Server 2003 Standard Ed. and clients using MS Outlook 2003 and 2007.  Both fully patched and updated.  At least the best I can tell.  The problem I am having is with one of my users that has Office 2007 and Outlook 2007.  He will have messages very sporadically just sit in his Outbox.  Doesn't matter if it is internal or external addresses.  No firewalls setup and I have disabled the Security center and Windows firewall.  We do have McAfee VirusScan 8.5i installed.  I do not see any messages from the logs on that.  The only way he can get these e-mails to send is to move them back into his Drafts folder and then hit send again.  I also have Outlook 2007 and have only had one message do this in the last few weeks.  We do have MS CRM 3.0 installed with the outlook client as well.  Any help would be much appreciated.

does the message acutally go... I know there is a known issue related to OWA and Outlook 07 with messages showing in the outlbox but was actually sent.

I would like to add that I did completely disable all rules and policy's for McAfee on the system that is doing this.

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-07-30 at 07:30:18ID: 19592669

No, the message does not get sent when it is in the Outbox.

by: peakpeakPosted on 2007-07-30 at 08:05:42ID: 19592964

First: Is it a large message (pictures, files attached)? Second, what is your email policy regarding mailbox sizes? If the user's mailbox is full (according to the policy set in Exchange, the message will not be sent.

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-07-30 at 08:08:31ID: 19592984

The messages range in sizes from just a little bit of text to some with maybe 1MB attachments.  I have no size limits on the accounts at this time, and this is one of my smaller mailboxes with only about 1GB of mail.

Try this: Recreate the user's Outlook profile.

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-07-30 at 08:25:40ID: 19593160

I have already done that on this system.  Sorry, I probably should have included that earlier.  Same issues remained, so I moved him back to his original profile so we did not have to recreate everything.

Tried on a different computer? Tried click on Send/Receive?

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-07-30 at 08:36:24ID: 19593270

I have not tried on another computer, but that would not work out very well.  It only happens sporadically.  It could be fine for hours and then may or may not happen again until the next day.Clicking on send/receive does nothing.  He has to move it from the Outbox to the Drafts folder and then hit the Send button again.  Only then does it go.

There is a work-around to send the un-sent emails - You open the item, switch back to Outlook and change folders out of the outbox. Then click send on the mail item and do not navigate back to the outbox until youve send/received.

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-08-29 at 04:59:27ID: 19790328

That is just as much of a painfor the user as having to move the item to a different folder.  We already have a work around to be able to send the mail.  I am looking for a fix so the program sends the mail as it should when send/receive is pushed.

I'm having the same problem with a couple of my users!

It's not consistent.  I've got 70 users all set up identically and only two have this issue.  All are running Office 2007 on XP boxes.

Has anyone found a solution to the problem?

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-12-07 at 05:27:45ID: 20427162

Please close this message as there have been no comments that have fixed the issue and we have provided our own workaround.

What was your work around?  I still haven't found a suitable one yet.  :(

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-12-07 at 06:50:26ID: 20427706

I have had the user put a check in the box "Send immediately when connected".   AS long as they do this, the messages are sent.  The only time we have the problem is when they want to only send/recieve after a certain time.

by: RESlusherPosted on 2007-12-07 at 06:54:42ID: 20427745

Thanks for the info!

I'll take a look and see if that works with my people!

by: OneupwebPosted on 2007-12-07 at 06:55:46ID: 20427756

No problem.  Good luck.
