IE7's proxy does not work that well yet (patches are coming)
Not to suggest installing any additional tools but you might want to give this a try, it works really well for me.

Tools - Internet Options - LAN Settings - Use a proxy server....
If I check "Use a proxy server..." and fill in an IP address and port for the proxy server, click OK to exit, and then go right back in to LAN Settings, the values are not there. The "Use a proxy server" is unchecked and there are no values for the IP or port.
I have checked the machine and it is virus, malware, and spyware free. Why would IE not save these values?

See if another user account works as it should...If so, I would go to rename the local copy of the profile....
My Computer>C: >Documents and Settings>YOUR USERID
and rename it to
My Computer>C: >Documents and Settings>YOUR USERID-old.
Then login again and retry it....
This will need to be done after a reboot, using another user account other than your current one. Just create a new temp user to do this with, and make sure it has admin rights.....
Then just log back in and retest....If successfull, migrate the needed data back to the newly created one.
Itis almost always easier, and much quicker with Profile related problems to simply rebuild the profile. You can spend hours upon hours tracking it down, only to be left emptyhanded....back to top
