Question

Error when running reports in CRM 4

Asked by: Techno-Man-uk

Hi,
When trying to run reports in CRM 4 I keep getting this error message displayed (see image) was working ok last week, not updates have been done over the weekend, so unsure why it's happening, have run the repair on the SSRS connector and no luck, anyone know why this would be happening?
Thanks

Is your CRM IIS server a 64-bit or 32-bit?

I found this post that may be relevant.  It seems that software updates can change the 32 / 64 bit settings with IIS.

http://blogs.msdn.com/david.wang/archive/2006/06/27/HOWTO-Diagnose-One-Cause-of-1-is-not-a-valid-Win32-application-on-IIS6-on-64bit-Windows.aspx

A comment below the blog post references this MS KB article, which might be relevant if you are running 64-bit windows on your IIS server:

Let me know if this sounds at all relevant for your situation.

The IIS on my CRM server is 64 bit and the IIS on the web server front end is 32bit.
So not really sure why this has alwats worked and now its not?
I read somewhere that the dot net has to be 2 but on my IIS web server it says the reports are in version 1?

Which server is "blueocrm"?  The 64 bit CRM server?

by: Techno-Man-ukPosted on 2009-08-25 at 09:00:40ID: 25178977

yes

by: sendowPosted on 2009-08-25 at 09:13:10ID: 25179124

I would start by trying to re-enable 64-bit .NET 2.0 on the blueocrm server.

Follow the instructions for "ASP.NET 2.0, 64-bit version" on this page:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894435

After those steps are completed, reset IIS:

iisreset /noforce blueocrm

Let me know if you have any questions about the ASP.NET configuration.

Thanks,

Steve Endow

Thanks sendow: that was the problem.
Do you know why this would have happened in the first place?

Hi,

It seems that during certain types of software updates, the IIS / .NET configuration information is changed and IIS gets pointed to a different version of .NET.

I'm not positive, but It seems that in the case of 64-bit Windows / IIS, the installation of update of a 32-bit application might cause it.  For example, if the 32-bit installation routine thinks it needs to check and make sure IIS is configured with .NET, it may not recognize the 64-bit version, and think it needs to point it to the 32-bit 1.1 version.

Glad it resolved your problem.
