Dear,

I am working as network and security administrator since 4 to 5 years, i am planning to move to SAP basis which wolud suit my backuground experirnce. I have few queries,

Where to get more info on SAP Basis?
Do i need to go with ABAP when i learn SAP basis or its simply in the programming side.?
Where can i find free ebooks for SAP basis?
What kind of background is important to learn SAP basis, is my background with 4 to 5 years as network administrator will be helpful?
Is certification important for BASIS?

Please provide me with additional information regarding BASIS

Hi,

Are you working with SAP currently? Learning SAP Administration or Basis Administration is quite difficult if you are not working with the product as the product is so complex and large.

I too am learning SAP Administration however I work with it directly with guidence from a more experienced SAP Administrator plus I have access to the SAP Support/SDN website.

SAP Basis now called Netweaver 7 or ECC 6 is the components that you will be focussed on with SAP admin.

A background with business processes and database administration would help greatly for a newbie wanting to get into SAP admin.

ABAP is the programming language that SAP uses to interface with the database however there is also a Java component in modern implementations. Having an understanding of the basics would help but I don't think this is essential.

    No you can directly learn Basis. ABAP is not mandatory.

       Yes certainly. It gives you the background knowledge to work in SAP but you have to learn the SAP concepts, that are totally new.

Is certification important for BASIS?
      It is if u are a fresher in IT but if u have prior experience, you may have to work hard for initial 1 yr for better prospects
