The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Salesforce - Scontrol to hide a custom button when the Status is CLOSED

Hi there,

Here is the situation :-

In SF on CASES , there is a custom button called - Close My Case. Please note that this is a custom button, and the standard CLOSE button is not enabled on CASE.
Once, user clicks on this custom button and the Status is set to CLOSED - we would like the "Close My Case" button to be HIdden, so that the user does not click on it again to close the case.
So, What I did - wrote the following the S-control:-
This is the best I could come up with, it is not hiding the custom button but it is giving an error message to user.

I need help to get this code running - as it is not right now. Also - if there is a better way to do acheive that would be great.

Hi sumprit,

I've never used merge fields for obtaining handles to buttons.  Are you sure that works?

If CloseMyCase really is a reference to the button, then your code should be this to hide the button:

function DisableButton(){
      CloseMyCase.display = "none";
}

It seems simpler to just add some code to the existing "Close My Case" button that prevents the action if the case is closed.  I think that writing an sControl just to hide the button is overkill.

Hi Bill,

The above code that I wrote earlier does not work. It does not give me alert message like I want it to.

Please see the attached file - where I am showing what can be done. Please advice further.

Hi Again,

I did something like this which works. Let me know if you see any flaws with this solution or if there is a better one out there.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
<script type="text/javascript">

var e=parent.document.getElementsByName("close_my_case");
//alert(" The count of button close case is " + e.length);

if({!Case.IsClosed})
{
//alert(" Status is closed ");
    for(i=0;i<e.length;i++){
//alert(i);
            e[i].style.display="none";
    }
}

</script>
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Thanks

No, there's nothing wrong with that approach.  Here's the sControl that I came up with.

Another approach is to change the button type to JavaScript instead of a simple URL.  Here's the JavaScript I used as a test.  Notice that we are just doing the same thing as a simple URL, but we can wrap it up with whatever code we want.

I actually like a combination of the two techniques.  If the user clicks the button before the sControl has a chance to hide it, then the user just gets a friendly message.

}
